Broken branches By M. Jonathan Lee.
'Family curses don't exist. Sure, some families seem to suffer more pain than others, but a curse? An actual curse? I don't think so.'
A family tragedy was the catalyst for Ian Perkins to return to the isolated cottage with his wife and young son. But now they are back, it seems yet more grief might befall the family.
There is still time to act, but that means Ian must face the uncomfortable truth about his past. And in doing so, he must uncover the truth behind the supposed family curse.
I really liked the idea of this book, anything that has curse’s, ghosts or anything that has something to give you a scare automatically gets my attention.
When hideaway fall said this would be the book we would be getting to review I have to admit I was excited and couldn’t wait to start it.
So.. Little Ray Of Sunshine and I started the book together and to be completely honest I did get confused at times, the book would be telling the story for the present day then jump to the past and leave the bit about the present day and I would be… ‘Well, what happened?’ ‘Are we coming back to that part?’ ‘Why have we jumped to this part?’ But once I got further on in the book it was easier to pick up and understand.
When the story picked up and got jumpy I really did get into it, then when it went ‘quiet’ I would lose interest and start having a lot of questions like…. ‘Why did that happen?’ ‘Why was the little boy there and what did he want?’ but I wanted to find out more so I kept reading and I’m glad I did because the whole idea of the story is great.
The characters how they were written you could (well I could) really related to how they were feeling and why they were feeling like that which for me I thought was fantastic.
For me personally I would have liked the writer to have gone into more detail about the curse, I know why the curse was there but more of the history, what happened to other families over the years and why only the first born? (without saying too much) Has the curse gone? Is it just waiting? Is there another family we don’t know about? But on the whole, this is a good read and will defiantly get your mind thinking, it did mine!
I really did enjoy the jump/scare side of this book and what it was about, for me I just wanted more information to go with it.
So, if you like books like this give it ago!
If you do get this book I hope you enjoy and leave me a comment saying what you thought.
